Life Expectancy in Ethiopia
There are many factors and reasons why Ethiopians have a short life expectancy.
Nutrition
The lack of Nutrition that is available in Ethiopia is very significant. Although the country is an agricultural country, the poor economy restrains the country to have the right equipment and gear to make and grow the crops.
The harsh weather conditions reduce food variety and make it hard for crops to grow. In a lot of cases it destroys the crops thus decreasing food quantity and quality.
Because of the poor economy, this limits the amount of water systems and taps that are installed and stops the water from being delivered to people who are need of it. Even if the water is able to be delivered, there is only limited amount or no sanitation of the water hence toxic and poisonous water.
Nutrition is very important for your health
Water takes up 75% of your body weight depending on your muscle ratio. It is vital to your body as it is needed in every tissue and organ to function especially your brain. Water has a few responsibilities, including transporting oxygen and nutrients, lubricating your joint, eliminating toxins and to adjust your body temperature.
Without water this could lead to dehydration. And with the constant water loss from your body through sweating, urine and physiological functions such as digestion it is very important to consume water daily. Severe dehydration could end up in difficulty to organ functions, impairs to your brain, kidneys and cardiovascular system.
Food is essential as well as water. When you lack food your body slows metabolism to conserve energy and there is a noticeable change in your blood sugar .Not only does it change blood sugar but it also make your brain function suffer. Children are most vulnerable to this because they need sufficient nutrition for growth and development. Lack of food effects academic results to school aged children. This was proven when kids who had right nutrition score higher in a math and reading test then kids who lacked nutrition.
Human bodies can survive 30 days without food. A long time without food can be a large risk and after a while your body breaks down fat and tissue to fuel physiological functions. The body is then unable to produce hormones and enzymes which causes many functions to fail. The last organ to shrink and stop function is your brain.
Infrastructure
Infrastructural is vital to a country. Infrastructure includes, roads, water systems (sewage, flood control, drinking water supply, etc) , dams, electrical power network and other. These missing infrastructure is very important to the country in different ways.
Roads are important as it is needed for main transport. This main transport becomes most important for transport when it is in use to the hospital or aid. Running or walking can damage the injured person and will take a lot longer. Roads are also in need of use when they are used for resource trade or delivery.
Sewage systems are as important. Without sewage systems it can create disease from the contaminated water. Disease that have already arised from from these waters are Cholera, Botulism, E. coli infection and other.
Electrical power networks are very much needed in hospitals to help doctors and nurses to help people with their injury.
Dams are extremely vital to a country like Ethiopia as there are severe and many droughts where people are left in much need of water during these occasions. In comparison to that Australia is also a country that has droughts, however we have dams to keep the water coming from taps.
The above are only part of what is needed for infrastructure in Ethiopia.
Education
The lack of education can be, believe it or not, be the cause of many deaths. These deaths can be easily be prevented. These deaths can be for example;
Cigarettes - In educated countries such as Australia, the majority of people who live there are educated enough to know the deadly effects of cigarettes it has on our bodies. However in a low educated country, (Ethiopia, Ghana, India etc) they do not have the education to give the people the knowledge to know the effects of cigarettes.
UV Protection - Especially in Australia, the people are strictly educated about sun protection because of the high UV in Australia. The hot sun in Ethiopia can highly effect the people there if not have the right protection.
